Sto. Domingo Church: National Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary

One of the perks of doing a fieldwork is to get to places you didn't expect like the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City. I always wanted to visit a Marian shrine outside of Cebu, so my prayers were answered in a different guise.

The facade may be deceiving but the church is really big in the inside.

Just above the main entrance is the sculpture depicting the Lady of  La Naval, Patroness of Quezon City and of course, the Philippine Navy.

On the body of the belfry is the sculpture of St. Dominic whose name is dedicated to the church.

A plaque of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines tells the story (written in Tagalog)  of the church of Sto. Domingo.

Behind the church facade and above the main entrance is the choir loft with the organ pipes visible.

The ceiling around the transept.

The church is filled with stained glass windows depicting the mysteries of the Rosary.

View of the apse from the nave.

Closer view of the main altar with the murals on the life of St. Dominic, the advocate of the Holy Rosary in the background.

On the gospel (left) side of the church is the Tabernacle with the image of Our Lady of La Naval in the background.

Closer view of the image of our Lady of La Naval dressed in golden regal vestments whose intercession brought victory to the Spanish forces in the Philippines against the Dutch Invasion in the 1700s.

The corridor beside the church leading to the convent.

Beside the church complex is the convent an atrium where you can cool yourself.
